A gorgeously restored masia, surrounded by the sun-drenched farmland of the Empordà region. A Mas Sendra wedding is rustic and romantic with an unforgettable Mediterranean charm. If you would like to chat with me about your Catalan wedding plans, you can contact me here.

  • The Farmhouse: Dating back to the 16th Century, Mas Sendra is full of history. Once a working farm, and retaining that rustic warmth, Mas Sendra weddings feel authentic and uncontrived. For me, the cloistered balconies overlooking the swimming pool, and stone steps with a wrought iron banister leading down to the courtyard, make Mas Sendra particularly special. Mas Sendra’s grounds are expansive, and there are so many different options for how to use the space.
  • Location: Nestled in the beautiful Empordà region, Mas Sendra weddings unfold amongst some of the very best Catalan landscapes. The farmhouse is located at the foot of the Las Gavarres mountains, with views of the majestic Pyrenees in the distance. It’s also just a short car journey to the beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava.
  • Capacity: Mas Sendra is an amazingly versatile wedding venue. It’s got loads of outdoor space and could comfortably hold a wedding of up to 400 guests. But, if you want something much more intimate, it has a coziness that works really well for much smaller gatherings too.
  • Best for: Couples looking for an authentic venue that they can make their own. Mas Sendra weddings are versatile and intimate with a rustic feel throughout. Especially suited to couples who want to embrace the rural location of Mas Sendra and have a natural, uncomplicated wedding that’s about them and their loved ones. Mas Sendra is also appealing to couples who care about good food and wine ( and want to celebrate the surrounding farmland).
  • Logistics: Girona Costa Brava airport (30km) and Barcelona El Prat airport (1hr30m).

The Details: rustic glamour at Mas Sendra

Mas Sendra has terracotta floors and thick stone walls which bring a warm, natural feeling throughout the venue. The 16th Century architecture excudes rustic elegance and Catalan charm. But its the gardens that make Mas Sendra weddings really come together.

The gardens have a harmonious balance of undisciplined, wilder areas, alongside the more manicured lawns that work beautifully for a more elegant ceremony. There are views out over the fields. Stoney paths that wind through the gardens linking up the larger lawns with quieter areas. As well as a walled courtyard, and ancient olive groves. I think the ceremonies under the silvery-green ancient olive trees are beautiful.

I also love the contrast of the turquoise pool against the yellow stone of the masia. The pool area is a perfect spot for post-ceremony cocktails. And the bride and groom can make an entrance on the spiral stone steps. Above the pool is a cloistered balcony. Here you’ll look out over the rural landscape of the Empordà region. Below you, the sight of your dearest friends and family all together having an amazing day!

The gardens and outdoor courtyard can be decorated with string lights to give a romantic glow throughout. And a sail marquee works really well to provide a shaded seating area. The gardens will be at the lushest, most green from late March through to early June. But Mas Sendra weddings retain their style and romance all year.

Picturing your Mas Sendra Wedding

Imagine waking up on your wedding day and looking out at bright blue skies. You arrive at Mas Sendra where the house and gardens feel calm, and everything is ready for your wedding. Head to the Bridal Suite with your closest people, sip Cava, laugh, cry, get ready together and share a quiet toast before everything begins.

Outside, your guests follow the tree-lined path and gather in the gardens, welcomed by your music and views over the spectular Empordà countryside. When its time, everyone gathers and takes their seats under the shade of an ancient olive tree, or against the warm stone of the masia’s walls. You walk down the aisle, framed by greenery, natural light and big, blue skies.

After the ceremony, the celebration flows seamlessly into al fresco aperitivos. Cocktails and seafood canapes, or mini coca flatbreads, or maybe Iberico ham, croquetas and olives, classic Catalan flavours with an elegant twist. Guests mingle around the pool and on the lawns, the music flows, and the atmosphere is full of love.

As the sun drops in the sky, everyone moves to dinner where the tables are dressed with candles, flowers and linen. Everyone is talking and laughing. Speeches, the clinks of glasses, more laughter and tears of joy fill the air. The food is an incredible celebration of the best the Empordà region has to offer.

Night falls, the skies of Mas Sendra glow and the music kicks in. Shoes are kicked off, arms in the air, music and dancing brings everyone together to finish the day with all the beautiful chaos on the dance floor.

Super 8 and rustic weddings, a perfect match

Mas Sendra Weddings are perfect for people who want a wedding that feels honest and full of life. Shooting on Super 8 or with analog film here feels perfect because the place already has that rustic, nostalgic feel built into it. The grain and tactile quality of the film echo the textures of the house and gardens. Super 8 and analog film stock are celebrations of the beauty of the real, the joy of the imperfect. And that is exactly what Mas Sendra has in abundance. Check out some of my Super 8 weddings here and my film photography portfolio here.
