An Indian wedding in Barcelona, it sounds like something you would read
about in an amazing story, and in this case it was amazing! Kyle and Priya live in New York, Kyle is from Ireland and Priya is from New York but from an Indian family, such an amazing melting pot of cultures to gather for this Indian wedding in Barcelona. When discussing their wedding with them beforehand, Kyle and Priya both emphasised how they wanted their photos to feel natural, candid and to be able to just enjoy the experience. Obviously, being an Indian wedding, there were some formal pictures and posed moments that were required but in general they just wanted to enjoy the weekend in Barcelona with their loved ones and not have to worry too much about the camera. This suits my way of working perfectly as I love to focus on the natural moments and just disappear, like being just another guest at the wedding!
And what a wedding! Two days of incredible joy, dancing and good times with friends. The Barcelona sun shone throughout and the blue skies contrasted perfectly with the yellow candy stripes of Gran Villa Rosa.
The first day was a traditional Mehndi ceremony with henna painting followed by some amazing choreographed dances by Priya's family and friends and Priya even joined in with one of the dances for Kyle, an incredible spectacle!
The second day was the main ceremony. Priya got ready upstairs with her bridesmaids in beautiful matching pyjamas whilst Kyle and the lads were downstairs 'getting ready' (mostly seemed like just banter haha).
The ceremony itself in front of the house looked spectacular with all the guests sitting out front with white parasols which combined beautifully with the colourful Indian clothes they were wearing. And the Barcelona heat and light added that extra bit of sparkle to the proceedings.
After the ceremony, I love to wander around the cocktail area taking street style candids, looking for interesting moments shared between the guests. Street photography was my first love in photography and I love to try and get some of that chaotic energy of the street into the photos from this part of the day, see if you can spot some in the gallery below.
At the end of the cocktail hour Priya and Kyle did a champagne tower, although given that it is Barcelona, it was actually cava, of course! The light was amazing and I shot a load on medium format black and white film, it comes out so well with the Barcelona sun glistening off the bubbles.
After dinner and some very funny (also rude!) speeches, Priya and Kyle headed up past the swimming pool to the outdoor dancing area and bar. The first dance was, shall we say, eventful, but you'll have to ask me about that in private haha. The dancing was wild to the live band outdoors and then, after a quick outfit change for Priya and Kyle, continued long into the night at the on-site nightclub. Overall an incredible experience to be a part of this Indian wedding in Barcelona and one that will live long in the memory.
